WALD 2026 Pre-Celebration Activities
The Arabic Speaking Union (ASU), under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Culture, is pleased to announce the organisation of the World Arabic Language Day (WALD) 2026 Pre-Celebration Activities for primary schools.
Schools are invited to participate in the various competitions designed for different age groups, as outlined in the attached guidelines.
All relevant information, including detailed guidelines and participation procedures, is available on the ASU website.
The ASU looks forward to the active participation of all schools in making WALD 2026 a success.
How to register?
Interested schools are required to register online by completing the official participation form using the link below:

PRE-WALD Activities 2026
“Arabic Shape Creation”
OBJECTIVE
To encourage young learners to explore Arabic letters creatively by transforming them into meaningful and imaginative objects.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY
Pupils will:
- Choose or be assigned one Arabic letter
- Transform the letter into a creative object or figure
Examples:
- ب → boat
- م → mountain
- ن → bowl
- س → waves
Students should:
- Decorate and design the letter creatively
- Clearly show the original Arabic letter shape
IMPLEMENTATION (AT SCHOOL LEVEL)
Teachers are requested to:
- Conduct this activity in class
- Guide pupils in:
o Choosing simple, suitable ideas
o Maintaining the shape of the Arabic letter - Encourage use of:
o Colouring
o Paper collage
o Simple craft materials
SELECTION PROCESS
Each school should:
- Select the 5 best creations
SUBMISSION ON COMPETITION DAY
Selected creations must be brought together on the day of the competition by the teacher.
MATERIAL & FORMAT
- Work should be done on:
A4 or light cardboard - Materials allowed:
o Paper
o Colours
o Recycled materials
GUIDANCE FOR TEACHERS
- Choose simple and familiar letters
- Focus on fun and creativity, not perfection
- Ensure correct letter recognition
- Avoid over-assistance (child’s own work)
IMPORTANT NOTES
- This is an individual competition
- Each pupil submits one creation only
- All participants will receive certificates
- Selected works may be displayed during WALD
“Arabic Poem Recitation”
Objective:
To develop pupils’ pronunciation, fluency, and confidence in Arabic through the recitation of short, simple, and rhythmic poems.
Description:
Pupils will recite one short Arabic poem selected from an official list provided.
Each poem will consist of 8–10 simple lines and should be delivered clearly, with appropriate pronunciation, rhythm, and expression.
Recitation must be done from memory, and pupils may use simple facial expressions or gestures to support their delivery.
Poem Selection:
A set of three (3) official poems will be provided to all schools.
Each school may:
- Select one poem per participant from the list
- Prepare pupils using the same official poems to ensure fairness
Guidance for Teachers:
- Help pupils understand the meaning of the poem.
- Focus on correct pronunciation and clarity of words.
- Encourage natural rhythm and confidence during recitation.
- Avoid over-coaching or overly dramatic performance.
Participation:
- Each school may nominate up to 3 participants.
- Each participant may take part in one or more activities.
On the Day:
- Recitation must be done individually.
- No reading from paper will be allowed.
- No background music or props are permitted.

1. الشَّمْسُ (The Sun)
الشَّمْسُ تَشْرُقُ فِي السَّمَاءِ
تُعْطِينَا نُورًا وَضِيَاءْ
تُدْفِئُنَا كُلَّ الصَّبَاحْ
وَتَمْلَأُ الدُّنْيَا بِالنُّورْ
نَلْعَبُ تَحْتَ أَشِعَّتِهَا
وَنَفْرَحُ فِي كُلِّ الأَوْقَاتْ
الشَّمْسُ صَدِيقٌ جَمِيلٌ

2. مَدْرَسَتِي (My School)
مَدْرَسَتِي بَيْتُ العِلْمْ

3. الصَّدَاقَةُ (Friendship)
صَدِيقِي مَعِي فِي كُلِّ حَالْ
نَلْعَبُ سَوِيًّا بِفَرَحٍ وَجَمَالْ
نَضْحَكُ وَنَمْشِي مَعًا
وَنَقْضِي أَجْمَلَ الأَوْقَاتْ
إِذَا حَزِنْتُ يُسَاعِدُنِي
وَيَكُونُ دَائِمًا بِجَانِبِي

“Short Sketch in Arabic”
FORMAT
- Group of:
3–5 pupils per sketch - Duration:
4–5 minutes maximum
TASK
Participants will:
- Present a short, simple sketch in Arabic
- Based on a real-life or meaningful theme
- Use simple and clear dialogue
SUGGESTED THEMES
4–5 official themes, such as:
- At School
- Friendship / Helping Others
- Respect / Good Behaviour
- Technology in Daily Life
- Family
LANGUAGE LEVEL
Simple sentences
Everyday vocabulary
Examples:
- كيف حالك؟
- أنا سعيد
- هذا جيد
- شكرا
Avoid:
- Long memorised speeches
- Complex grammar
PREPARATION
- Prepared at school
- Better quality
- Less stress on the day
- More creativity
ON THE DAY
- Groups perform one by one
- No heavy setup required
- Simple gestures allowed
Optional: - Very light props (bag, book, etc.)
GUIDANCE FOR TEACHERS
- Keep dialogues short and simple
- Ensure all pupils participate
- Focus on communication, not perfection
- Avoid overly long or complex scripts
- Encourage natural acting
PARTICIPATION
- Each school may nominate:
1 group (3–5 pupils)
Keeps event manageable
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Maximum duration: 5 minutes
- Arabic must be used throughout
- background music is allowed
- Props should be minimal
