About The Arabic Speaking Union (ASU)
The Arabic Speaking Union (ASU) is a statutory body created under the Arabic-Speaking Union Act to advance the understanding and appreciation of the Arabic language and its rich cultural heritage. As a national institution, the ASU plays a central role in nurturing linguistic competence, fostering cultural dialogue, and supporting academic and artistic initiatives related to Arabic studies in Mauritius.
The ASU fulfils a broad mandate that includes:
- Supporting education in Arabic at all levels
- Facilitating cultural programmes, artistic activities, and literary promotion
- Strengthening partnerships with local and international institutions
- Encouraging research, publications, and intellectual exchange
- Organising conferences, seminars, competitions, and cultural events
