About The Arabic Speaking Union (ASU)

The Arabic Speaking Union (ASU) is a statutory body created under the Arabic-Speaking Union Act to advance the understanding and appreciation of the Arabic language and its rich cultural heritage. As a national institution, the ASU plays a central role in nurturing linguistic competence, fostering cultural dialogue, and supporting academic and artistic initiatives related to Arabic studies in Mauritius.

The ASU fulfils a broad mandate that includes:

Supporting education in Arabic at all levels
Facilitating cultural programmes, artistic activities, and literary promotion
Strengthening partnerships with local and international institutions
Encouraging research, publications, and intellectual exchange
Organising conferences, seminars, competitions, and cultural events
Providing opportunities for scholarships and international collaboration
